Berkeley Protocol on Digital Open Source Investigations

The Human Rights Center spearheaded a collaborative effort in partnership with the UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner to develop an international protocol that articulates professional standards and guidelines for the identification, collection, preservation, verification, and analysis of digital open source information with an aim toward improving its effective use in international criminal and human rights investigations.

The Berkeley Protocol is in use around the world, and has been cited by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine as a framework for documenting potential war crimes in Ukraine. It has been translated into Ukrainian, and will be further translated into all six UN languages.
